You don’t have to be Anthony Bourdain to enjoy any food on the planet.
We live in a marvelous age. Your local grocery store is a portal to every continent and culture. I happened upon TERRA® Chips by accident, and I devoured the whole bag–inside and out. I nibbled tentatively at first, then slammed down even the crumbs while I read every word on the packaging. In fact, researching the difference between cassava and casaba was the thread that led me to the Wikipedia page for vegetables and started this whole wacky adventure in the first place. So without further ado, let me introduce you to your new favorite thing:

Yuca
(Cassava) The lightest in color and crown-crackingly crispy.

Taro
(also known as Malanga and Dasheen) The speckles make it easy to pick out my favorite flavor.

Sweet Potato
Sweet potato is not exactly exotic, and getting even less so with the advent of “alternative” fries, but it is a close runner-up to Taro.

Ruby Dipped Vegetables
This isn’t actually a different chip–it’s beet-dyed everything else. Luckily I can still discern the squiggles of my beloved Taro even when pinkified.

Parsnip
The brownish color and center ring are a dead giveaway for my least favorite. It’s more about texture than taste; they’re undoubtedly crispy, yet strangely soft.

Batata
(Boniato or Cuban Sweet Potato) Probably the most potato-chippy of the bunch, this one pulls them all together.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Deep-frying makes anything delicious.
Whether you’re just starting out and need a quick win, or you’re turbo competitive and desperate to check a hard one off your list, don’t overlook the convenience of a simple bag of chips!
